During my campaigning for Ron Paul back in the Fall of 2007 I ate Raman noodles every day for lunch for close to 3 months. I was saving as much as I could to donate to the campaign and to buy campaign materials to distribute.

It was during this time I had my first ever trouble with irregularity and abnormal BMs, but this did clear up after I resumed a more normal (but not necessarily a more healthy) diet.

Now here I am suffering through colorectal cancer and can't help but wonder how much damage I did to myself with those Raman noodles.

Guess I'll never know.

edit: that is pretty impressive I must admit.

Raman noodles everyday are a killer...I remember when I live in SF I would buy day old rolls from boudin's bakery for a dime each (10 for a buck) buy a lil cheese and eat for a week!

I wonder how many hours Cathy spends a week to make this happen?
Could she do better if she just took a part time job?

Her time vs. the savings? I was kinda wondering that myself...

Not bad at all, but alot of that pantry was things like boxed mac and cheese and other pre packaged, chemical laden meals. So I guess it all depends on what you want to eat. STill hard to beat that price of Free or nearly free.

They are defently preppers though, thats for sure.

Don't forget, she has to pay taxes on a job income.

Why work? When you can eat for free.:s9:

Gotta give her credit for her resoucefulness, but as mentioned, and too, ...what I've noticed is a lot of the items which are put on sale are either very close to expiration date or aren't the best for you....ie High Na+ content, also the quarter pound piece of Perch she bought, that's only a 4 ounce piece...on the small side

Anectodotal here... but that's what my brother had before he passed, and he ate a lot of ramen noodles... Kinda makes me wonder now, since I have no sign of it (hereditary) and hardly ever ate them.

She didn't mention how many sunday papers she needed or what trash pile she took those out of (or whether she steals the coupons when she gets her sunday paper). Pretty impressive though. I had a friend who's wife was into this stuff in the late 90's, she would end up getting unbelievable amounts of free stuff using coupon scams, and then they would flea market it on the weekends.

I hope she has other skills.

As it certainly will be needed.

Usally the stuff that has coupons is very high priced and has that cost factored in.

Still gotta give her credit as she is better than most.

Her food is subsidized by YOU. Sure, she is smart, but the store can't give away food for free to everyone.....

My wife does the same thing and has cut out food bill by about 75%. She lost her job at GM and is now a stay at home mom. It takes her about 4 hours a week to do all of that.

In the Northwest they do not double coupons nearly as much but 75% off is still great. No she does not root through dumpsters or steal news papers most are online coupons and we ask others for their papers when they are done. We were not real extravigant in the first place (dollar store Bread store etc.) and we actualy have more "name brands" now in the house. between that and the garden we have a nice full pantry.

Our younger cousin is a coupon maniac along the OP level she is of the internet generation and has a blog http://maybefrugal.blogspot.com/

You dont need to buy the newspapers to get the coupons. There are plenty of coupon clipping services that sell individual coupons for 5 cents each. If they are a "hot" coupon, they sell for 10 cents or more. Also, you can buy coupons on ebay.

Wait till her doctor bill comes for eating that MSG crap food. They never have coupons for non chemical, environmentally packaged foods. It's always the crap with the colorful red and yellow box, the cartoon character on it, and loaded with corn syrup.

If a grocery store doubles coupons, sure they are loosing money. However, if a store doesnt double coupons, then the store isnt losing money. The store is reinburst the cost of the coupon plus 8 cents. If people dont want to clip coupons and pay full price so be it, that is their choice.

This isnt 100% true. I have seen coupons for "organic" products, not all the time, but they are out there. There are plenty of coupons that will buy you good food that isnt loaded with junk.

If she makes a profit on the stuff she buys, she can put that towards buying more organic types of products. This woman shops at Shaws, and they sometimes have organic produce on their reduced racks.

Absolutely not! She made $250+ that week tax free for a couple of hours work.

No travel expenses for a job, no taxes, no special wardrobe, etc.

She is beating the system.

Re: YouTube: Massachusetts family of 6 lives off $4/wk for food

I guess it's nowhere near as cost effective if you're only shopping for one or two people instead of six. Personally I would never feed myself or my kids chemical laden heavily processed genetically modified high fructose corn syrup "food" ( I hesitate to even call most of the items in her pantry food ). Still, that is very impressive that she gets such great deals.

In the long run, it's cost effective for the nwo to give away this "food" because if you eat this "food" on a regular basis instead of real food you will probably only live to be 70 on average instead of 90-100 if you eat a healthy diet. Those last 30 years of food, medical care, other resources are a big drain on society. Kind of like putting fluoride in the water. It would be cheaper to just not put the fluoride in the water, even though its a toxic byproduct of aluminum manufacturing, states still use your tax dollars to pay the aluminum manufactures for the fluoride to poison our water supplies with. It may seem like a waste of energy, but if you consider all of the resources the NWO is saving by killing us off 5-10-20 years faster, in the long run it actually makes good sense to heavily subsidize or give away any item that will kill us off faster. Once we can no longer produce resources for the nwo, we're useless to them. It's ingenious if you think about it.

Around here, I look in the sunday paper every day, and I NEVER EVER see coupons for fresh fruits or vegetables, let alone organic fruits + veggies. But I see coupons all the time for 49 cents a pound genetically modified milk, 1.50 per gallon hormone laden cow's milk, 3/ pound cheese, etc. Animal products are very very heavily subsidized, but if you actually want some healthy food, you better be willing to pay full price. You get what you pay for.

I like the idea of getting the free food and re-selling most of it, but it seems like more hassle than it's worth. Just because you have a job or business doesn't necessarily mean you have to pay taxes. I doubt it's worth the time to clip / search / print out coupons unless you have tons of mouths to feed, and said mouths will eat pretty much anything put in front of them.

That is the factor that many people bring up. My wife does the same thing, saving hundreds of dollars a month, like the woman in the film. If she went to work she would have to pay for transportation, day care, clothing allowance, etc., plus our family wouldn't have the obvious benefit of having a stay at home mom to effectively raise the children. So the obvious choice is to save the family a little money while taking care of her first responsibility.

<snip>

Yeah, and most people have never learned that these boxed foods are not really doing anything to promote their health. They have been brainwashed into thinking eating frozen pizzas, Ramen noodles, milk and Diet Coke is normal and not harmful. Mind control at its finest. It isn't until they are diagnosed with a serious illness years later that they may begin to open their eyes. And by then it's usually too late. These highly processed foods rob the body of nutrients in order to be metabolized. So they are doing more harm than a person eating nothing at all.

Nevertheless, what she's doing is very impressive. I've never seen such a big grocery bill get cut down so much.

Those types of coupons are not in newspapers, they are found on bottles of wine. They are called winetags. I happen to have several that will get me $1 off any produce. http://cgi.ebay.com/10-1-00-off-any-...item20ae17d067
